As a telecommunications company, Utility Telecom understands how important a phone number can be for a business. You rely on your telephone for all areas of business, but did you know that even your area code can impact your business?

What You Need to Know About Local Area Presence

For a new business that makes frequent outbound calls, your area code can influence how credible your business appears. If your business makes outbound calls to a particular region, call recipients may screen their calls by area code to avoid scammers.

Highly populated regions may have limited access to major area codes, making it harder for new businesses to have a local area presence.

Luckily here at Utility Telecom, we offer local area codes to businesses in a few major California areas. These areas include:

  • 415 covering the San Francisco Area
  • 408 covering the South Bay Area
  • 510 covering the East Bay Area
  • 916 covering the Sacramento Area
  • 310 covering the West Los Angeles Area

What You Need to Know About Caller ID Spoofing

Caller ID Spoofing, or robocalling, comes down to one well-known identity: spam. Much like the spam in your email inbox, these calls are unwarranted and can come from anonymous users that may seek your personal information. These calls are often made from automated dialers with pre-recorded messages and can be received as frequently as multiple calls a day!

There is no way to know when a call may be spam. Caller ID Spoofing can make incoming calls appear to be from a local number. With the disguise of a local area code and prefix, your phone’s caller ID becomes unreliable.

This can lead to a lot of confusion and frustration for all parties involved. Call recipients may be frustrated with the frequent calling and spam, while the real owner of the phone number may get an influx of missed call accusations.

How to Protect Yourself

While many call centers or telemarketing companies may utilize the select area codes to make calls to appear as local, Utility Telecom must clarify that the company does not support or offer any type of Caller ID Spoofing services.

This is one service that Utility Telecom does not and will not provide. If you have been a victim of Caller ID Spoofing or think your number is being used in Caller ID Spoofing, check out these tips from the FCC.
